Microsoft announced it will cease delivering new features for Office apps (Microsoft 365) on Windows 10 starting August 2026. While security updates for Office on Windows 10 will continue until October 2028, no new features will be added after next year.
New features will stop for Microsoft 365 Personal, Family, and business Current Channel users in August 2026. Enterprise users on the monthly channel will lose new features in October 2026, followed by semi-annual channel users in January 2027.
This change encourages Windows 10 users to upgrade to Windows 11 to access the latest Office innovations. Despite Windows 11 surpassing Windows 10 as the most popular desktop OS, millions still run Windows 10.
Windows 10 reaches its end of life on October 14, 2025, but Microsoft will keep providing security patches for Office apps on Windows 10 until October 2028. Users can extend security support by a year through Windows Backup.
