CEO Yves Guillemot revealed in a recent interview that he is still in the “exploratory mode” of NFT technology.

“Recently we have tested several things that give us more information about how they can be used and what we should be doing in the video game universe. So we’re trying out a few games and see if they really meet the needs of the players,” Guillemot said.

“As a company, we moved early to VR, to the Wii — we’re always trying something new. Sometimes it works, sometimes it doesn’t, but you always have to make sure we can give players new experiences that are innovative and fun.”

VR started off as “clunky” when it first launched in 2016 and has seen continuous growth every year since its launch, but despite having an install base now in the millions, only 2% of PC gamers have a connection to their PCs.

The Wii was a risky proposition for Nintendo, but its motion controller proved popular and also made it one of the best-selling video game consoles of all time.

So the question is, will Web3 games be “VR”, “Wii”, or somewhere in between?

To date, survey data (with a sample size of 6,921) suggests that it will be difficult for Web3 technology to become anything other than a niche segment of the gaming market.
